 Annual manga lists, such as the "Kono Manga ga Sugoi!" rankings and Manga Taisho Award, are a great way to find new manga to read. There is only one problem: many of the titles which appear in these lists have yet to be licensed overseas (and aren't guaranteed to ever be). "You Should Read This Manga" aims to create an annual manga discovery list for the international fan. Passionate manga readers can nominate any title that has recently been licensed and released outside Japan. While this doesn't guarantee all finalist manga will be available in every region, it greatly increases the probability for it to be licensed (now or in the future). Nomination Criteria Since our goal is to spotlight relatively new and unknown manga available to the international fan, there are few conditions for nominations:
Should be anime (optional) Best for beginners (optional) Unique art/story (optional) Deadline: Feb 27, 7pm JST Not sure which manga to nominate? We compiled a list of eligible titles, which can be found here: Eligible Manga List  Use the "My List" filter on Desktop to see which manga you're currently reading or have completed. Titles do not need to be included on this list to be nominated. As long as they meet the above criteria, please send them to us anyway! Missing manga can also be reported here. | Even though I'm not a manga reader, this is probably the event I look forward to the most every year (more so than the Secret Santa event). From this event, I've enjoyed Otoyomegatari and Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku. Absolute gems! Excited to see which manga I'll stumble upon next. |

| I thought maybe I should mention: I'm not nearly as much of a manga reader as I am an anime watcher, so I didn't think I'd have much to contribute in terms of nominations, but a surprising number of stuff I've been looking at seemed eligible, so I was more than willing to put that out there if it could be of use in any way. Namely: Drama Queen - the controversial darling at 10 chapters in Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You - a sweet adult-cast slow-burn romance I was recommended and greatly appreciated The Way of the Househusband - one-gimmick comedy that is pretty good The Liminal Zone - current Junji Ito publication 100 Ghost Stories That Will Lead to My Death - now this one surprised me because I didn't catch the news that EN copies were being sold, which is great because this one here is an absolute hook of a horror concept (if only Nikubami Honegishimi could get an official release too...) Pretty certain both Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You and The Way of the Househusband were in challenge stacks before, but I can't swear to if it was the "You Should Read This Manga" events specifically. (Edit: I left and checked... they in fact were, but for different years) Others on my lists that were eligible like Konosuba or Persona 5 would probably be better enjoyed by people that are already fans though, like as anime, light novels, in Persona's case play the game. Rising of the Shield Hero was also applicable, but I fell out of love with that one so fast after season 1, it's sad, so I just wouldn't recommend it anymore in general. I just came back here to check and it seems now that Fire Emblem Heroes: A Day in the Life is marked as eligible too, but also one that's very circumstantial within its own niche and not a good entry point: not only aimed at Fire Emblem game fans, but fans of the mobile game Fire Emblem Heroes, similar to like a short onging gag manga for Fate Grand/Order. |
