• Baby Orangutan Myrtle ...
Myrtle was born on 31st August 2023 to Mother Sarikei and Father Willie
Sarikei is an experienced mother orangutan who has had previous offspring including her son Tombol who lives with her and the rest of the Bornean Orangutans at Chester Zoo
endangered newborn baby orangutan
Chester Zoo Baby Orangutan
Chester Zoo is has a very successful record of Orangutan births at the zoo and most of the Orangutan Mothers are able to rear their own young without the assistance of zoo staff, this is largely due to the expert care and facilities the World Class Zoo provides for the animals.
The current animal population have had valuable experience with babies and have observed relatives caring for young, using this learning and experience to enable them to rear their own offspring
Birth of critically endangered orangutan at Chester Zoo
Bornean Orangutans have been considered critically endangered since 2016 with an only an estimated 100,000 left in the wild. They are seriously in danger of extinction which makes the birth of this new baby orangutan very special indeed
Congratulations to Chester Zoo on the birth of the new baby orangutan from @apetracker

Yes, Tombol still loves his mom 🥰
Myrtle is a big sweet girl fixing up her bed and getting sweet kisses from mom. 🥰❤️❤️
She is growing up so quickly Denise and it's always great when she is with mom. 🥰
@ She is growing up. I wish she could stay a baby, I want her to grow up to have her own babies someday. 🥰
😢😢😢
So precious and her nest building instinct is amazing.
It really is 🥰
Я люблю эту девочку и начинаю скучать по ней.❤
Большое спасибо за просмотр, мы очень ценим это. Хорошо держаться 🥰

I know they have an outside, but that section of the enclosure looks like a war zone. Kinda depressing for our precious Orangs
Yes, their outdoor area is awesome. 👍
I agree, it's depressing. They deserve their trees, their habitat.
@ to be honest this is just the surface. Thousands are ‘disposed of’ (YT loves to delete my honest comments)every year so that we can have boatloads of candy that no one wants. Their lives are literally worth nothing to humanity right now. I can hardly stand it. Shame fills my soul
No grass, they look very bored to me poor and caged animals
@@theflashtheflash6101 yea, they need forest.
@@theflashtheflash6101 They have access to a large well planted outdoor area, that can be seen in other videos of this family on the channel
They do however seem to enjoy being in the indoor areas as they chose to spend most of their time inside
@@JonasWhite hopefully one day soon they will all be safe and thrive in the wild again
@@ApeTracker1 I have a weak spot for these animals, as you do. Seeing them in their natural environment is becoming less common every day
They look skinny to me
@@prostreetdino8266 interesting
They certainly eat well, I observe them eating all day, they get fed regularly on a diet of fresh vegetables and primate supplements. They are also free to graze on the various plants and vegetation in the outdoor environment, that they have access to all day. They have boundless energy and can be seen in the videos on this channel. Swinging, climbing and playing together, a good indication of their great health. Orangutan youngsters often look skinny as they have less fur and muscle definition, which increases as they mature and become more independent
@ ok , I always watch orangutan jungle school on tv , and they all look fatter lol , maybe it’s just me , what do I know lol , only thing I know for sure I would love to hold a baby orangutan before I die
@ yes agreed, many youngsters do look bigger, it’s probably genetic with this family, they are all siblings or half siblings. They have the same access to food as their parents who are quite large, and the little one Myrtle still feeds from mom. The zoo has had nearly a century of caring for apes and has featured in tv series including ‘the secret life of the zoo’ so they get the best of care
Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment 🥰
